There was this plastic record player for children in which you put these plastic records in and it would play them (usually nursery rhymes). They have the same sort of thing now with Barbie and cd's.

The other day I was helping my mom go through the garage and I found a few of the records from my fisher-price record player when I was little. Now we're totally on a hunting expo through the garage to find the player. I plan on giving it to my son if we find it. So many memories!

i loved mine so much, I lost all the records to it and cried!!! I found one years later behind an old house, but it was completely rusted through...bummer
Mish - September 12, 2007 - Report this comment
I had one of those! I thought I was so grown up using it. Remember later when we got the "real" kids record player and McDonalds gave out that floppy record you could put on a real record player and it would play the "Quarter Pounder" song?

OMG!!! I had one of these record players from Fisher-Price. My favorite one was London Bridge. My mother may still have it in her house...I had totally forgotten about it. I will look for it for my 4yo to play with. Hopefully, it still works!

Wow, I had totally forgotten about this! Remember how the records had bumps on them (kind-of like Braille) and that's how the songs played???

Does anyone remember the talking books that had miniature records embedded in each page. There was a separate record player that you had to put on top of the record to hear the story. I had a book about Mickey Mouse and his ghost exterminators. Loved it! Did anyone else have any of these?
Lisa - February 17, 2008 - Report this comment

My brother had a Fisher-Price record player. We would play a record, then put our action-figures on it, turn it up to 45 and watch them fly off. LOL! My friend had "Hobbit" book, with the record in it, that would repeat the previous page if you flipped back.

These come up on ebay all the time. The full name for it is "The Fisher Price Music Box Record Player". I've been on a hunt recently to get my 5 Grandkids a bunch of vintage toys. They love my old Viewmaster Reels. The oldest is 6 and the youngest is now 3. So far I've gotten them a Viewmaster Talking Projector, 6 Viewmaster Handheld Viewers, GE Show 'N Tell Phono Viewer & Record Sets (finding this was a headache), Fisher Price Movie Theater/Projector & Movie Cartridges, Fisher Price Handheld Movie Cartridge Viewer, Handheld Talking Viewmaster Viewer, Kenner Motorized Easy Show Projector Set, Disney Aristocats Record Player, a bunch of Disney See, Hear, Read Record/Book Sets, Table Top Pirates Of The Caribbean Pinball Game, Fisher Price Talk-To-Me Books & Player (that Mickey Mouse book mentioned above is called "Ghost Chasers"), and Mattel's Ringling Brothers Circus Playset. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO MY GRANDKIDS!!! LOL. Dave

I had something similiar and been searching for it. Was a book with a record in the pages, you had to lift a flap and it had a small record needle on it. you put the needle on the record and then you turned the record using a penny i think. the story was about farm animals who stopped burglars!! Does anyone remember it or know where i could get hold of one!!??

I bought the Fisher Price player with "braille" plastic nursery rhymes in 1978 for my daughter. My mother has it with all the original records at her house and my 3yo & 7yo grandchildren love playing with it. Try www.thisoldtoy.com website they have them for sale.

I remember (70's) we used to have a record player with all red plastic records that would play Christmas stories, and they would be kind of silly, but fun stories. It was kind of like this Fisher Price Music Box Record Player, but don't know. Anyone have any ideas of what this could have been?
