I have one.....i will submit a picture. This was my favorite doll as a kid. It still holds a place in my heart, as silly as that sounds.

a lady that lived behind me years ago used to have the one pictured. My Real Baby was made of much harder plastic and had that horrible wig hair instead of being rooted. Once the bully that lived down the street ripped said wig off, I was terrified of my doll and kept it in the closet until she was thrown out. Still have pictures of her on Christmas morning though..

Yea, my Real Baby had that bad wig thing too. I played with the little bald guy awhile, but when my mom made me round up some toys to give to needy kids, he was the first to go.

I totally forgot about this. I had one too. Let me say, that wig thing did not wash well. I washed all my dolls hair (i don't know why), but after I did that with this doll the hair was permanently matted. Don't wash it's hair. You'll regret it for life.

I still have mine, too, and it's as ugly as sin. I remember putting mustard in the nose of it to look like snot and now it's stained yellow. The hair does matt terribly, too. The doll in the pic is way cuter than the one I had, though! Remember the Real Baby with it's eyes closed?

My friend had one and I was so jealous! I remember how heavy they were giving the feeling of a "real baby"

I had one when I was 9. I used to take it with me everywhere I go. I had a lot of dolls back then.

The doll in the picture came from the later series. I washed my baby "Christie" when I was 9 and here hair turned GREEN. She was one of the originals when they all came with horrible glued on hair. The skin got dirty very easy and stained like crazy. I loved her soooo much... my Dad threw her away when I left home. :(

I also had an original one of these dolls, got it for Christmas. I remember it being very heavy for a baby doll, and the hair/wig fell off of mine as well. Having 4 older brothers, I found this doll to come in handy when in fights! Don't know what ever happened to it though, that happened with a lot of my toys...hmm...

I had the one pictured, i loved her so much! I remember my mother surprising my with her one day after school when I was about 5. I named her Emma. I also had one of the early ones with irreparably matted hair and closed eyes. I always remeber the hair being matted so I'm not sure what I did to it to have made it that way.

My grandmother got me one for Christmas in 1987 when I was 5. She had asked me what I really wanted and I told her one of those Real Baby dolls. Well, there's a pic of me on Christmas Eve opening the one present and I have the biggest grin on my face. I knew what it was by the shape of the box. Looking at it now, it's sort of creepy looking.

I wanted one of these dolls so bad! Never got one, though. I think I got into Jem and the Holograms dolls and that's what my Mom bought me instead. I remember that all the rich little girls at school had one and they would walk around the playground and show them off and me and my friends would cry with envy.

The one pictured is 'Real Baby Newborn' - much cuter and more lifelike than the original Real Baby. I got RBN for Christmas in 1986 - she was a replacement for the lame Strawberrry Shortcake Baby I'd been using as my "child" up until then. I was thrilled!! She came with a rattle and a "real" diaper. I played with her until LONG past the age I should have been playing with baby dolls. She has now taken on the role of "introductory baby" for those os us who are expecting babies in the family - we dress her up in little PJs and place her in the car seat so pets, other kids, etc. can get used to the idea of having a small infant around before it actually happens. She is in surprisingly good shape for her age!

When I waitressed at a local cantina, we were allowed to dress up for Halloween. I dressed up as a "teen mom" which consisted of simply wearing a Snugli with THIS doll strapped into it and carrying it around with me during my entire shift. I put a newborn cap on her and glued a Nuk to her mouth, and she looked spookily like the real thing! I even tricked some people. They gave me really wary looks as I approached to deliver their menus. "That girl has a hard life," I overheard one woman comment to her husband as I walked away after taking their drink orders. Too funny. I (jokingly) told people to think of my baby's future when the time came to plunk down money for a tip. "This one's gonna go to college, if it's the last thing I can manage!!"

Another favorite doll of mine!! I always loved to hold her and pretended she was my baby for so many years. She looked and felt so life-like. I'm not sure, but I still might have her at my parents' house.

I had a real baby also. I got her for christmas one year when I was about 3. A few months later my dad was gathering toys up to take to the needy and accidently grabbed her. I went to look for her one day and she was gone. She was my favorite doll. I was heartbroken. If anyone has one that the would like to sell I would definitely be interested.

I loved my real babies!! I had one called "wakey baby and my sister had "sleepy baby" they were awesome they came with bottles that were real. My doll had a bonnett on and a dress, my sister had a pair of pajamas on and its eyes were always shut!

This was my first baby doll. I got her for Christmas when I was 2. When I unwrapped the package I asked if she came from the hospital.

My mother got me this doll for Christmas when I was 5. It would always go missing and we would find my 2 year old sister hiding in her closet playing with it! lol My mom went and got her one too, but the female dolls were backordered for months so she ended up with the boy doll instead and man was she TICKED OFF! I ended up keeping my doll...now naked and nappy-haired. My 1yr old son enjoyed it for about 6mo and then moved on to trucks. He named it "Bean" lol

I had one in a light purple dress and my sister had one in a striped yellow one-piece romper. I thought it was so ugly that I was insulted Santa would bring one to me -- what a brat! I should apologize to my parents for complaining! Even though I imagined her to be a whiny, crybaby, I was so angry years later, in high school when I found out my dad had given it to my cousin. I had grown fond of her!

OMGsh! I wanted that toy so bad! When Christmas came and I opened it, and spotted my "Real Baby" it was over, no other present even existed in my mind. That was the only doll I carried with me EVERYWHERE! What was so funny is that people really had to do double takes to see if I was walking around holding a real baby. Loved the birth certificate and everything. Like the first comment she still has a special place as my favorite doll ever too :)

I still have regrets about not getting this doll! I can remember having her in my hands at Target and was going to buy her with my own money and I put her back to buy the Clue Video Game. I never did figure out how to play that stupid game!

I had this doll as a child, but with the crazy matted wig hair. It was terrifying. The face was permanently grimaced and its black eyes haunt me to this very day. My parents assumed I wanted one because a cousin of mine had been begging for one for Christmas and it was the "hot" toy that year. How wrong they were. I know for a fact that when I get to hell, Real Baby will be waiting on me.

I absolutely loved this doll! My mom babysat and one of her daycare kids ruined her. Does anyone know where I might be able to buy one? If so please email me at stcywag@yahoo.com or call me at 267-382-0385. Thank you!

My sister asked for one of these on a local TV show called "A Visit with Santa" it aired like 8am on Sunday mornings, and it was just where your mom and dad dressed you up and you visited with Santa. Anyway, my sister said "I want a Real Baby" Santa: "A real baby? Well, I don't know if I can do anything about that." She got her for Christmas anyway. lol
SZA - August 17, 2010 - Report this comment
That's cute, Heather. I think a lot of Santas probably ran into the same predicament that year!

I had a real baby as a young girl and named her Megan Elizabeth. I gave her to a thrift store years later. Then I had a daughter and named her Megan Elizabeth and could kick myself everyday for giving her away. How precious would that have been for my Megan to have had my real baby Megan. I am devastated and wish so badly to find one for her. She was my most memorable doll ever!

I had a Real Baby named Kimberly and I loved that doll. I found her a couple years back in my parents' basement. She did look super creepy with her matted wig and crazy eyes.

I still have her if anyone wants to buy her from me. My mom did cut her hair off because it used to get so nappy. She is in really good condition other than that. If anyone is interested email me @ jamesandmelissa071103@yahoo.com. Thanks :)

I still have mine. Shes a little beat up but she was the first baby doll I got with my own money when I was 6 or 7, now I'm almost 33. My daughter played with her when she was smaller.

i used to have one of these dolls. I loved her dearly as a young girl would love her doll(s). My brother burned her hand on the stove (on purpose) and told me it was poop. Her arm got torn and my mom made me throw her away. Her name was Rose.

I had 2 "Real Baby" dolls when I was young... one with her eyes open and one with her eyes closed. A story that my parents tell and we all still remember is when one of them would fall out of the bed onto the hardwood floor at night, my mom or dad would come running to make sure it wasn't me! Haha! :) Another funny thing... I have 2 daughters of my own now. My youngest (8 months) looks soooo much like the "Real Baby" with her eyes closed while she's sleeping... It's insane how much! I like to think that having that doll was a way for me to see my future little sweetie... Not really... But still kind of neat. ;)

When I was little I wanted the 21inch, 3 pound REAL BABY, apparently there were several different versions made around the same time period. I got the Real Baby Newborn instead. I never really liked my doll because she wasn't the one I wanted, but my parents searched high and low to make sure I had a Real Baby under the Christmas tree that year. I made sure never to show my disappointment. The newborn was shorter and much much lighter, she lacked expression and just wasn't that exciting. I would be interested to learn about the different versions of the Real Baby and when they came out and when/why they started giving the dolls rooted hair instead of those terrible wigs.

I begged for one when I was 5. Got it for my birthday. I LOVED that doll. Still have her, with the original yellow romper, but I was pretty rough on my toys and smashed the weight in her head, so she rattles when you pick her up. My favorite was leaving the her sprawled out where my dad would find her early in the morning when it was still dark. SHe creeped him out, he said she looked like a dead baby. It was always a easy way to get him to yell and freak out.

In 1984, my friend Tracee got one of these dolls for Christmas, and I was sorta jealous! Even though I was 12, much too old for dolls, Santa still brought me a doll every year. I got a newborn doll that looked like a Bye-Lo Baby. When I saw my friend a month after Christmas, the doll was all beaten up and I was so upset! I just bought My Real Baby on eBay for my 5-year-old, and she should be here tomorrow. My girl has already named her Taylor

I have been carrying around a chest of dolls for 30+ years and as unpack up for another move I'm asking myself why? Then, reading all these comments and feeling nostalgic, I know the answer. But I think it's time to give another little girl the opportunity to find love in an almost mint condition Real Baby. I hope she is cared for forever.
