Description
You sat on a triangular plastic seat that had two wheels in back and a set of bike-type handle bars in front that swiveled, and had a place for your feet. Using the laws of physics, you swung the handles back and forth as fast as possible in hopes of going somewhere.

We had one of those in preschool! I think the church still owns it! I LIVED on that thing every time I went to the church basement. My mom used to have to pry me off to get me to go upstairs to church!

For two years in a row, one of my cousins had her birthday parties at this indoor playground called "Heaven on Earth" and they had a roller racer track.

My best friend and I used to hook bungee cords or tie rope from one of our bikes to the handlebars on my roller racer and tow eachother around the neighborhood at much higher speeds than intended. It was great traveling a bicycle speeds that low to the ground. Great until the front wheel hit a pebble with any size and we got launched. Also, occasionally, a bungee cord would brak and come snapping back at the rider. But it was great fun! I had to beg my dad to buy the roller racer from a TV ad.

i had one of these, but it was called a "flying turtle." it was especially fun on linoleum, if you had a big enough area. the driveway was a little too pock-marked to enjoy it.

OMG, they had these at my daycare. Unfortunately, I never got one. If they had them for adults, I would totally ride them!
Ryan - May 30, 2009 - Report this comment
My friend had 2 and we would race them down his sloped driveway....

I never had one but my friend had 2. They were a blast until you hit a stone then they became a kid launcher and I would run home crying and get a freeze pop. Repeat the whole process all summer long. HAHAHA

I had one of these. Like a commenter above said, mine had flame stickers. I remember my mom being really angry at me for leaving it outside during a rainy day. I think it got a little rusty after that. I also fondly remember our recreation center having an area roped off to ride on these, and the joy of scraped knuckles if you weren't careful.
