I thought Romper Stompers were these yellow upside-down cup type of things that you walked on. They had a long string attached, and made a nice clip-clop sound when you walked. I think they were named because they were on Romper Room.

They were just called Stompers. They were big when I was in first grade circa 1979-80. They used a single AA battery, had spongy star like treaded tires and would climb anything. I've seen them on Ebay. I think I'll have to get another one. I wonder if I could find one like I had. A blue chevy blazer I think.

Yes Jessica, Romper Stompers were those plastic yellow cups that acted as stilts, with green plastic straps that went over the shoulders. I had a pair of Romper Stompers back in 1972. I remember trying to walk on them through watery backyards, which had been flooded by Hurricane Agnes. Many years later, I became a quality control inspector for Playskool, the makers of Romper Stompers. Romper Stompers were one of the toys I had to inspect. They got a pressure test to make sure they could withstand a certain amount of weight.

Ahh, Romper Room! My mom made me some Romper Stompers and I'd stomp around. God, how simple things were! I also remember my mom writing in or whatever so that Miss Molly would say my name at the end of the show when she looked into the magic mirror or whatever...that was trippy!

I still have my kid's Romper Stompers, now used by my grandkids. I remember the song: I'm a Romper Stomper big, I'm a Romper Stomper tall, I'm a Romper Stomper (?), Oh no that is not all DOES ANYONE REMEMBER THE REST OF THIS SONG?

I do remember the Romper Stomper trucks. I loved how you could switch the bodies, they didn't really do anything other than go forward in for wheel drive.
