Evil toy if placed in the hands of stupid adults. I went to a friends party and their idiot parents put it on rocky ground. I guess I went first because my stomach got shredded my mom took me home.

I thought up the slip and slide before I ever saw it on shelves! Remember me anyone? I use to use a "Jack in the Box" plastic Hop Scotch sheet.1977-78? Spread it on the City of Chicago Sidewalk(Fletcher st) with a running garden hose. I would run and fall and slide. One day a man pulled over in his car and asked me a few questions. If I was having fun? If it hurt when I fell and slid? I told him I made it up and I had fun. It was a blast! Well I'd like to know did I actually invent it or did I unknowingly see it on TV?

We were never allowed to have one or play on them because our mother said they were too dangerous.

The toy was a plast, but I used to get sooo bruised up playing on bumpy or rocky ground. All was fine until my teachers thought that my parents were abusing me and called them in for a conference. Thanks Slip N Slide :)

We didn't have one so my sister, the girl next door, and I made one with trash bags and a garden hose. I don't think it worked that well. LOL. I think they still sell these!

My family used to put two of them together; we'd also put them on a hill in the yard. I don't think that'd fly nowadays. LOL!

I loooved my slip n' slide! We would fly off the end and get grass burns, so my dad came up with a solution. He got those big black leaf garbage bags and basically extended the slip n' slide for us. I know it sounds ghetto, but hey it worked and we got to slide a looot longer! :)

I spent many summers with bruises and grass rash from running off the end of that thing and/or hitting those metal stakes that anchored that death slide.

one summer, we covered the thing in soap to make it extra slippery. because i am brain damaged, i volunteered to go first. the soap accelerated my slide so much that i ended up in the hard next door, straight into a tree. i had my first broken bone because of slip 'n slide.

The best summer toy ever! We just had the plain yellow slide then a few years later we got the crocodile mile with the little splash pool at the end. They don't make them like they used to. The ones now days are so cheaply made!

Wasn't allowed to have one, because my mom thought it was too dangerous, but for some reason she always let me go on the neighbors slip n slide!!! It was all fun and games until my neighbor decided to show off and try to do it BACKWARDS!!! She almost broke her nose!!!

It was always great fun when you flew full speed over a rock that pierced you in the back or stomach

yup, yet another toy my mother deemed "too dangerous." she told me that many kids had been eviscerated by stones underneath the plastic.

I remember putting soap on ours to, we flew down the hill, grass burns and all. Got in trouble the next week when all of that soap killed the grass. No more soap allowed, grounded for one week NO SLIP IN SIDE for one whole week. That was the longest week of the summer.

Yeah, slip-n-slide during field day in 4th grade, there was a piece of obsidian underneath it, ripped my foot right open. 8 stitches and a lot of blood later, I'm still a bit wary of them.

I didn't have one of these, but my cousin did. My grandmother took me to her grandmother's house, and we set the thing up in her front yard. Unfortunately, her grandmother's front yard (she didn't have a back yard) was a pretty steep hill. We ended up zooming far past the end of it and getting grass burns and scrapes from rocks all over our arms and legs and backs. Oddly enough, neither grandmother stopped us from using it. LOL

We used to have the corner lot in our neighborhood, so we had a nice big area to set up the slip-n-slide. It seemed like as soon as my dad had set it up, neighborhood kids flocked to our yard to take a turn!

I totally agree with Sharon...my mom had gotten a Slip-n-Slide for my graduation party eight years ago (this was 2004), and I was rendered sore all over. Ouch.

Had one as a kid in 1980! Set up in the back yard. LOVED it. But when I was done sliding, I would wipe my hands on it to clean up all the grass on it so I could slide on the clean yellow slip n slide - and lo and behold, my brother would sneak by and run and slide on the cleaned up slide I just cleaned. I would clean it again, and he would run and slide on it again!! Brothers!!

Letisha, I think that was something your dad used to slip you on the side!
