As I remember it, there was no camera with a mirror. There was the periscope to see around corners and a camera disquised as a box of candy (Good N Plenty, in my case). My favorite was the long-range microphone, which worked really well (when I was a kid, I could hear conversations across the street from my back bedroom). I believe it was actually illegal in some states.

Arius - August 27, 2009 - Report this comment
The camera came with the Good 'n Plenty cover AND a clip on mirror to take pics around corners. There was also a great fake passport/badge kit, an infrared detector, a listening device, and a supremely useful black light fingerprint kit.

Yeah, that was the real deal! I had the passport kit, fingerprint kit, and the motion detector! MANY hours spent playing by myself with those! :)

I remember having a mic that could listen through walls. I also loved the sunglesses that were mirrored on the outeredges so you could see behind. Wish I still had those. Does anyone know what happened to the company? I've got a. Oisin that would love this stuff
Ben - September 15, 2009 - Report this comment

yes yes I had the walkie talkies, periscope, camera, long range microphone ( by far the best one ), mirrored sunglasses, and fingerprinting kit and it was danm awesome!!! I can only imagine why it dissapeared from toys r us when i was a kid
Little1205 - January 17, 2010 - Report this comment
Yeah that stuff was awesome. I had just about all the spytech stuff, but there is one thing that hasn't been mentioned that was a cool addition to the spytech things that I had, and as far as I know, I was the only one of my friends to have it. I think it was a spytech fan club I signed up for or something, but anyways, they sent me a binder which held the manuals that came with the spytech toys, and they also sent some plastic cut outs that allowed you to make composite sketches of "suspects". Did anyone else have this? I wish I still had all the spytech things I had as a child, it really sparked my interest in the field of Criminal Justice.

There was also a vest, which was used to carry around all the different spy gear they made. I had (still have) that when I was a kid.

I had a plastic rock that you were able to put a note or something small in. When you blew a whistle it would beep.

For my 10th birthday, I got the long range microphone and the Good N Plenty camera. But they are gone or missing. I wish I got more of those awesome toys!!
Chris - September 15, 2010 - Report this comment
I had the binder from the fan club, that thing was my most precious possession as a kid.
Emily - October 21, 2010 - Report this comment
Yes! My sister and I were obsessed with these toys. We loved the fingerprint kit with the invisible ink marker that was blacklight responsive. My mom just LOVED the idea of us spreading that powder all over the house! And, yes, those sunglasses with the mirrored edges were so cool! I wish I still had them, I would probably wear them out! We didn't have the long range microphone :( Wonder if any of these are available on ebay?
David - November 29, 2010 - Report this comment
I had so much fun with these toys. When I got the motion detector (on a birthday) me and my friends would team up against my brothers friends and, using mirrors and flashlights and such, set a trap where you had to make it up our stairway without setting the alarm off with the lights out. It was too fun. The books were really cool too because they went beyond what the toy could do and teach you how to tail people and change your appearance and stuff. Man I wanted to be a cool spy back then!

Does anyone know where I can buy any of the kits? I remember growing up I had them all. I wish I still had them. When i was litle (now 24) i was always obsessed with cops and survallence stuff and remember rigging a way to use the motion detector as an alarm at night if someone opend the door and tried to break in to my house it went off and i could hear it from my bed room lol if someone opened the door to my house I would hear it from my bed room and id spring up from my bed and get my cap gun and shoot him lol that was my plan. Those were the days. I miss that stuff, they don't make toys like that anymore. If anyone knows where I can get any of the sets especially the motion detector and the mic set please email me. Im pretty sure i actualy still have the mirror glasses in my junk draw lol im gonna look. My email is andrew.young54@gmail.com

I had some of these as a kid, like the camera with the box/mirror- my dad refused to buy me film for it as it was expensive cartridge film. He never really got that he bought me something I couldn't ever actually use due to this. I also had the sunglasses with the mirrors which didn't work as well as I would have liked- I found out while wearing these that if you can see someone in a mirror, they can see YOU looking at them. My friend wasn't impressed that I knew he was walking up behind me, hah

I've still got a working Spy Tech thermal sensor. Device has a series of LEDs on the back and a lens on the front. As you get closer to a heat source the number of LEDs increases. Makes for a great way to detect approaching people even in total darkness.

This was some supercool gear back in the 90's! I had the camera with some special film that the photo store would have to send out for developing the pictures. Then there was the periscope which was kinda basic though foldable, and the intruder alert, the not-so-inconspicuous sunglasses with a rear-view mirror... and then I had a vest where to attach the different carrying cases of these gadgets. Kinda shame I threw all these toys away, otherwise I could teach my future child to be a super spy!

Was moving some boxes in the garage and opened a time capsule of all my Spy Tech stuff. The vest, fingerprint kit, infrared kit, periscope, motion detector, long-range microphone, camera (w/ Good & Plenty box and mirror), the secret identity kit, the walkie-talkies (had an ear piece and microphone clip), and the binder w/ all manuals...even the suspect identity kit! My boys are 5 and 7, they are having a blast with this stuff! Put in fresh batteries and it all works, how fun!

I had the sunglasses and the long range microphone both were amazing. The was unreal you literally could listen to people way down the street. But if a car drove by it was incredibly loud in your ear.
retro.x - September 21, 2016 - Report this comment
I remember seeing a news report that side the long-rang microphone was being taking off store shelves shortly after it came out cause it could hear far distances and even through walls only a few where sold it was discontinued. I wish I could of got my hands on one.

This was one of my favorite toy lines growing up. I owned several of gadgets including the Long Range Microphone, Fingerprint Kit, Rear View Glasses, and a few others. I had a chance to speak with one of the original TYCO artists for this line and he told me that one of the first products they intended to put in production was a bug device (which they later learned would be illegal). One of the final products never put in production was a surveillance camera you could connect to your T.V. and monitor imagery transmitted from the device.

I had the majority of the toys from this line growing up. I had so much fun playing and pretending. I would set up the door alarm on my parents bedroom door and play pranks on my siblings with the motion detector. I have been collecting these toys for the last ten years or so. What a great toy!!

Since I have recently started to collect these kits, I have found that the foam for the Walkie Talkies and Long Range Microphone have degraded significantly over time. These two kits were mint in the box, but that foam material has not stood the test of time. I have had to clean the earbuds completely and restore them with fresh earbud covers. They still work like a charm!
