I wanted teddy soo bad when I was a kid. This was one of the toys i didn't get. I'm kind of glad now that I didn't because he would have scared the hell out of me.

This bear was, and still is, one of the creepiest toys ever invented.

I had Teddy Ruxpin and my sister had Grubby. We used to love playing with them and listening to the stories. He only scared me after I broke his lower jaw off. It was a bit traumatic at that age.
Gab - June 26, 2007 - Report this comment
My grandmother nearly got into a physical altercation with another woman buying this the Christmas he came out. He was the last one on the shelf and she was determined to get him. Loved him, maybe because he was a bit creepy.

I never had him, but I remember the commercials. I am not sure if I ever wanted him or not. I had a talking 'Julie' doll so I may have just been happy with that.

I had a Teddy Ruxpin. I didn't get a Grubby. My best friend had a Grubby and a Teddy Ruxpin. My imagination was so vivid back then that I imagined myself with Teddy Ruxpin in his world. I can't remember the name of that fairy, but I would imagine myself flying into the sun with her.
Paula - August 08, 2007 - Report this comment
There was something slightly creepy when the batteries ran low. I'd just close his eyes and stick him in the closet at night. I'm sure that he's the reason I'm such an avid reader now, though!
dubbayumm - August 26, 2007 - Report this comment

Teddy Ruxpin was such a cool toy. You can buy him on ebay and Target.com if you want to. I remember getting one for Christmas and just loving it. I would take it to the restaurant with me for Christmas breakfast and years later it probably broke or something because I don't have it anymore.

He was a must have. I love this bear. I still have it to this day. I know that it does not work, but I like when you can put the tape inside of him and he would read to you.

I never got any of the toys, I wanted the flying ship thingy...still do, but I loved the cartoon. After over 20 years I still know the song of by heart...makes me wonder where all the math in my brain should be...

I went to a flea market a few years ago and saw a Teddy Ruxpin selling for $25. I decided not to buy it because it was kind of pricey. maybe if it was 0nly $10, no problem.

I loved Teddy Ruxpin! I had a whole bedset too (which is still in my parents linen closet). I played with him until I broke his lower jaw off, but he still sits on the toy shelf in the basement, broken mouth and all.

I love my Teddy Ruxpin. I'm 31, and I put him on top of my television. Whenever I listen to a book on tape, I listen to it trough good ol' Teddy; it's awesome. Like "Understanding Islam", "Einstein's Bridge"; Most recently I listened to "Guns, Germs, & Steel." It's swell!

I woke up Christmas morning and woke up my parents, we proceeded down the stairs and I opened my first Teddy Ruxpin. I proceeded to cry for three hours becuse they didn't supply me with the proper accesories. I broke my Teddy Ruxpin and put him in the trash compactor. Afterwhich, I bought a sandwich, it was swell!

My parents bought me teddy for Christmas when I was 5. He was freakin cool. I always wanted his caterpiller friend too. One day my brother and I were rough housing and I stepped on teddy's face and broke his mouth off RIP.

I wore my Teddy into the ground. I had all the tapes and the books that went with them. While I never found him that creepy, he did get weird when the batteries started to die...Sounded like he was possesed.

Teddy Ruxpin was the big reason I am such an avid reader now. My daughter has one and we spend time just sitting and listening. Maybe all those people should quit watching movies like Chucky and just enjoy a kids toy.

I'm still mad that my mom never got me a teddy ruxpin! Every year for my birthday and Christmas I would beg her for a Teddy Ruxpin and I always got my hopes up the night before. Then I would wake up in the morning and be disappointed. You all should be appreciative your parents got you such a fancy toy like Teddy Ruxpin. How much did they cost back then anyway? Like when they first came out?

I LOVED (and still love) my Teddy Ruxpin!! I remember getting one for my birthday the year they first came out...that was the ONLY thing I wanted that year!! I was so stoked when I opened that box!! I took him with me everywhere!! I still have the little guy and he still works even though his clothes are a bit worse for wear...my Talking Mother Goose faired much better!! "Hello. I'm Teddy Ruxpin. Can you and I be friends? I really enjoy talking to people..." LOVED IT!!! Although the buzzing noise that accompanied the movements on both toys was a bit annoying!! Still a sweet concept for a toy!

I wanted a Teddy Ruxpin (and Grubby) so badly. I ended up getting a sort of rip off of Teddy, Gabby Bear. I enjoyed him enough (I still have him), but I remember feeling cheapened that it wasn't Teddy :(

Teddy Ruxpin, was by far the SCARIEST toy I've ever owned my entire childhood. He had red eyes!! Not the greatest thing for a talking toy to have. This was one of the toys I never wanted but ended up getting for my birthday. I remember using him, maybe twice, and then throwing him into the back of my closet. =P

Oh yes, he was soooo scary!!! I still remember being terrified of him one night. My parents couldn't get me to calm down even by putting him in the closet or somewhere because I thought he would get mad and get me! They then took him over to my Grandma's house who lived right behind us and I remember staying up all night worried that he was going to hurt her!

i had one too as a kid.Loved him and the story. Red eyes? no last time i looked they were brown. dont understand what is so creepy about a small furry teddy bear with a gentle disposition, and friendly voice.......I loved the Lullaby book the best. His singing to me was so soothing it put me to sleep every night. Some of you apparently never had older siblings that would watch movies like Freddie and Jason and Chucky- now for a 4 year old in the 80s THAT was scary.

I wanted one of these but then my friend had one and I realized it wasn't so cool. By then, I was reading on my own so I am glad my parents didn't blow the money on it. It was expensive but it was cool for a little kid to watch the bear read.

My friend had a teddy ruxpin and her dog ate all the fur off it. All we saw was this bunch of gears and plastic flapping around. Scared the crap out of me. Even now I hate dolls that talk. Chuckie didn't help much either...

My grandmother bought me a Teddy Ruxpin when I was 3. I loved listening to the stories and looking at the books. My favorite song was the "Your Friend" song. I remember putting a rap tape in him and pressing the play button. I died laughing when he began rapping with his mouth and eyes going bezerk!!

I fed my brother's TR some baby food, because (at the time) I though he looked hungry. The crud dried and broke his jaw off...I think I am still tramatized by his freakish jawless stories and music.

While I think AG Bear was the better talking bear, I still think Teddy Ruxpin is one of the best toys of the 80s. And I don't get why so many people think of him as creepy. If an innocent talking bear scared you, then you must have had problems. I hated talking dolls, but I was fascinated by Teddy and I wasn't the bravest kid. I begged for one but never got one. Too expensive.

I had a Teddy Ruxpin when I was little, then I sold himat a yeard sale when I was a teenager. I have regretted it ever since. I have 2 small children of my own now, and saw a Teddy Ruxpin DVD in the store, so of course I bought it (it reminded me of my childhood) and to my surprise...my kids like it too. As fate would have it I was a t the "free exchange" a few weekd ago and found the origional Teddy Ruxpin and a Grubby. I brought them home, and they dont work but I think I might still keep them (or at least the Teddy!)

I wanted a Teddy Ruxpin soooooo badly, but he cost so much my dad said there was no way I could get one. I told him, "Don't worry, Santa will bring it!" When I woke up that Christmas morning and there was no Teddy Ruxpin, I was absolutely heartbroken. I tried not to let it show, but I know they knew how upset I was. I'm still about to cry thinking about that Christmas when Santa didn't come through. :(
