The Avenger was a "Space ship" that had an almost A-shaped saucer section. It was battery operated, and made noises when you fired it's lasers (by pressing the button where the "saucer" met the body of the ship), and when you hit the target, it made a different sound. The "Saucer" could be removed, and the engine pulled from the ship and snapped onto the saucer, turning it into a shuttle, of sorts. It was white, with a firebird sticker that went around the bridge. The wings were white, with black section you had to attach.

Quite a well put together toy - shame that it wasn't part of a larger line really, it would probably still be in production now if it had been. Found out recently that there was a USS Enterprise model (Star Trek) that looked fantastic.

I think the toy you are referring to is the Starbird Space Avenger. If you Google "Starbird Avenger" you can easily find pictures of it.
