Description
A Barbie-esque family of dolls, a mom, dad, daughter, and son. The dad had real hair and built in plastic underwear. The originals came with mom in a 2 piece party dress with red hearts, dad in a full blue suit, son in a miniature of his father, and the little girl in a yellow party dress. They all seemed a little more "upper crust" than Barbie and her gang.

Wow brings back memories, I think they were 70's though because I remember playing with my older neighbor's set.

Hi its me again! I also collect these they were 80's and AWESOME! Im sending some pics. Thanks!

These were definitely higher class than Barbie. Beautifully made, durable, attractive, and somehow more wholesome than Mattel's famous airhead. Of course, now that Bratz are on the scene, they make the old Barbie look like a girl scout. The Heart Famliy has never been satisfactorily duplicated.
Kellie - September 10, 2007 - Report this comment
Trust me...these were 80's. What 9 year old couldn't resist the charm of a pregnant doll. BTW..these were put out by Mattel and were Barbies.
jess - September 11, 2007 - Report this comment
according to the box, they were "neighbors of Barbie"....I didn't play with barbie until "Dance Club", though I got many for my birthday. Heart family were the best dolls on the market!!
Akilah - September 14, 2007 - Report this comment
These came from the 80's...I remember so well because this was a real life family that the dolls were made after. My grandmother used to work for the family as a nanny. I was so excited as a kid and I used to tell all of my friends that the Heart family was real and my grandmother worked for them. She still has a family portrait of them that they gave her for Christmas. Wow!!! this really brings back memories!!!

I got an almost complete set of the entire Heart Family collection for Christmas 1986. I still have the much loved and play worn dolls and Volkswagon with carseats. They are my favorite dolls (even more than Barbie!)My Peaches N Cream Barbie was the children's aunt.

I adored playing with my Heart Family with the matching twin babies. I had a camping set with a blue baby suit with moose ears hood for the boy and pink baby suit with rabbit ears for the girl.....I LOVED THEM!!

I had these, or I should say my sister had them. I think she never forgave me for losing one of the kids.
Hannah - January 03, 2008 - Report this comment
Never had these, but they have them on ebay. I wish I had the Heart Family because they look so sweet and innocent.

I loved this family. I had the mom, dad, son and daughter. They also had some rad white plastic wicker furniture. The couch even pulled out into a bed!
Gowri - April 03, 2008 - Report this comment
My heart family wore the exact same clothes as those in the 1st pic. :) N i still have them w/o clothes.:(
Hannah - April 07, 2008 - Report this comment
The Heart Family is way better than the Bratz dolls. Those dolls are ugly while a lot of the barbies from the 80s were so much prettier.
Albino - April 23, 2008 - Report this comment
I still have my Heart Family stored away to give to my daughter someday. =) When I was 4 years old I was given my first Barbie doll, other than that, I only had the Heart Family: Grandpa, Grandma, Dad, Mom and a couple of kids. I also had a couple of cousins, but I just pretended that they were more kids. haha! I love the fact that they were a family with a mom and dad who were married and not just a couple who were dating. I also liked the fact that you could get grandparents. To me it seems like the Heart Family has morals and values that aren't portrayed in other Barbie "sets".

I remember having this set. Remember the "lipstick" thing that came with for the mom? It was a clear rubber stamp thing that you would press to her lips, then she could kiss her family members on the cheek! I had the Christmas set. They wore red velvet outfits. I was always making the mom go into labor. The dad was always nervous and running around.

I loved my Heart Family dolls. I had the Mom, Dad, Daughter and Son. I also had a "younger" version of Mom who came with a maternity outfit and a baby boy I named Todd. Her hair was darker, and she was prettier than the "original" Mom, who I imagined was less fun and didn't play with as much :) On Saturday mornings I would play with my doll house and the Heart Family. This usually involved some swimming in my Barbie sized pool filled with "real" water. Such great memories! I still have the dolls and will always treasure them.

OH MY GOD! I am so glad I found this...I was OBSESSED with these dolls. I had the whole nursery set, and the bath tub set. I LOVE LOVE LOVED them!
SZA - July 29, 2008 - Report this comment
Ah, The Heart Family ... I think there was more going on there than the happy photos on the product boxes and toy catalogs wanted us to know. Remember the dad's powder blue dress jacket and tie with pink hearts down the front? Don't you find that a little ... I don't know ... OFF? I think Mom Heart was definitely in some major denial there! Probably on anti-depressants or something. (Can't blame her, though, being as she was the mother of those two twin moppets whose appetite for matching outfits, expensive toys and complicated infant gear was insatiable. "Questionable" or not, Dad Heart knew how to dole out the C.R.E.A.M.! What other parents that YOU know drive their toddlers around in a sporty convertible with manic grins on their faces???)

OMG...I have almost this whole set in very nice condition though I played with them a lot. I remember dressing up the twins in their 80s clothes, putting the family in their boxy car and driving off to the "playground" they had (sold separately). Thinking of this makes me want to dig through my attic and play some barbie!

I don't know if this interests anyone, but the original version of these dolls was created in the 70's...however, I didn't have them until 1984 in the "Pink/Blue" version-I also had the "Red Velvet/Christmas" set that I wish I could find again. The car with the little fabric-covered baby seats was the best thing ever!
kylamonkey - December 14, 2008 - Report this comment
Both mom and dad had permanent wedding rings on, and the clothing was much more conservative. The boxy blue car was definitely more subdued than Barbie's corvette.
Mel - December 18, 2008 - Report this comment
I had the entire Heart Family that my mom got me at a garage sale. I didn't play house too much with my dolls, so I didn't find much use for the babies. They were cute, though. The man and woman's outfits were pretty scary!

Ahh, heart family...good times. My kids still play with my old set. I have the mattress and sheet left from the crib/bath set and the various rattles and toys that were for the kids, the mom with the pink dress, the dad with the one-piece white and blue outfit with the suspenders and the two kids: a boy with dark hair and a girl with blonde hair. I lost the kids clothes. I also had the car. I wanted the entire set, but never got that far.

I'm just taking a trip down memory lane. I still have the dolls, the white wicker furniture, the disneyland set, all original clothes and I have a daughter!...unfortuantely, she hates playing with barbies so I haven't been able to hand them down...she's more of an artsy, outdoorsy type kid- and of course have 2 boys...wonderful but I'd be worried if they wanted my Heart Family. My cousin had EVERYTHING...the car with the carseats, nursery, living room, bath...etc. EVERYTHING! it came with a baby carrier to and I know it was mine but she claimed it was hers and to this day, we still joke about who's it was...this is 20 years later. lol good times.

I so remember the playground! I was pink and blue. It had a square you could lift out of the bottom and underneath was supposed to be the sandbox. I wish my mom hadn't gotten rid of it!

I just pulled out my old barbies from the attic to give to my daughters. WOW the memories! I had EVERYTHING ever made for the Heart Family. I am a bit disappointed that many of the things didn't last so well in the attic. But the memories have been worth saving them. I am considering throwing away some of the pieces. Anyone interested? I have the playground and car and school and camper...THE best toys ever!

The Heart Family is officially barbie's friends, according to Mattel. They actually use the same mold the the Kelly and Tommy various molds, and some of Barbie's kids/babies in certain dolls through the years. kasey

I just moved into my first house, and my mom used the opportunity to bring back a bunch of stuff I've been storing at her house over the years ... among them many pieces of my HEART FAMILY set!!! Heather, you're right - the pieces didn't hold up so well in storage. A lot of the fabric parts seemed to dissolve and the foam mattress for the wicker-looking bed was completed obliterated. The plastic pieces are all in very good shape though, save for some sticker wear. I still threw a bunch out due to the condition, but kept the rocking chair/train crib set and a near-mint bathtub with all the accessories. Also have the babies, but they are now orphans, alas, as Mom & Pop are long gone to that big landfill in the sky!

I LOVED my Heart Family dolls and saved them for my girls. They are 3 and 5 and love to play with the babies. I had to throw away the car :,( because it was falling apart. I get great joy out of seeing my two little girls play with the family together, and would love to update the set a bit for them in the future.

Erin, I have a heart Family bathtub with working shower pump AND crib set with working Rail Runner Train, music box and rocking horse. Plus a ton of the tiny plastic accessories - toys, bottles, food dishes, diapers, etc. I am getting ready to put all of this up for sale on Ebay but would much rather to sell it to someone who will put it to good use. E-mail me if you're interested, sstanton78@yahoo.com
