There was another Voltron that made a giant robot by connecting a bunch of cars together. I think it made a brief apparance on TV before the lions version shown here took over. I remember enjoying very much setting it on fire.

Form feet and legs, for arms and body, and I'll form the head! Wahahahahahahaha! This was a well-made toy. I remember it being pretty heavy
akhad - September 09, 2007 - Report this comment
there were a few versions. the pictured is probably one of the die-cast ones. the plastic one was bigger so you could put the figures inside go through the whole formation routine. as far as i know, there were only two bad guy "vehicles" they were both coffins that could fly.

Akilah...Are you talking about a 3 feet tall voltron that didnt move and just rolled around standing still? Do you still have it? Let me know Thanks.

I remember getting this as a gift from my Father's Steel Workers Union christmas party. all the boys my age got that toy. All 5 lions. that was a pretty darn expensive gift at the time!

Anyone notice that this toy looks very similar to the Power Rangers big robot when all their vehicle got together to fight a super monster? I'm just saying...
Dan - February 01, 2008 - Report this comment
Don't you mean the Power Rangers look similar to Voltron? Loved the toys and the cartoon; my favorite was the blue lion but I hated the fact that the Princess replaced the original blue lion pilot.

I'll be taking a pic of mine tonight for you all to see. I still have my Voltron pillow cases.

Seriously. This thing weighed a ton fully assembled. It was pretty cool though. Definitely not cheap.

Being 35 my mind is a little hazy. First there was the shogun warriors. After that which came out first? The destructicons that formed devastator or voltron? Oh yeah, FORM BLAZING SWORD!!! Had to say it.

I had the entire set the lions and the cars. The car set cam to the us after the lions 2nd season. and gobots started to become big. The lions are the best the cars just way to much and too brittle.

I loved the TV show but, sadly, never had the toys. Boo hoo.

I remember playing with my brother and 3 cousins and whoever got stuck using the red or green lion got duped, because they were small and could only attach 1 weapon to their mouth. Awesome toy though.

I remember "Playing" Voltron on the playground. In the winter we would fling our gloves off of our hands like the lions would on the big robot. Every morning it was Robotech followed by Voltron just before school!

I used to pray so hard that they would come out with Voltron toys. Finally, one christmas, my brother and I both got Voltron! The one we got was better than this one. It was plastic, but much bigger. It was made to put action figures into, and they would pilot the lions. We never had any of the figures, but that was okay, because GI Joe took over this awesome weapon! Definitely one of the best toys ever!

Okay, There was actually 3 versions of Voltron but only 2 made it to the US. The first was 15 space explorers and then came the 5 lions. And jango, your are correct about the constructacons but wrong cartoon (lol).

I really liked Vehicle Force Voltron and the cartoon series was great. It reminded me of Star Blazers which is awesome!

I still have parts here and there. Not a complete set. I also have one called Goggle-V (Truck for legs, Tank body and arms, Jet for front torso and head.)which was part of a large line that was supposed to be related to Voltron somehow if I remember right. I vaugly remmeber another one that had a HUGE lion that was used as the torso as well, I used to think of it as Voltrons brother.

It took me FOREVER to convince my mother to take me to the store to buy one. I still remember her telling me to "pick one" and me saying "no I need all of them to make Voltron." "Well put it back, we're not getting any. You won't con me into buying the rest of them later." Sigh..never got a single cat.

voltron from Matchbox...the most well built toy of the 80's...expensive too. Loved it and it was awesome looking. I had the stupid looking one too that you could put the people in...and had the castle of lions...that was the ghetto version though because it looked totally stupid. I even thought that when I was 9. Finally got the matchbox one at big lots and it was really cheap...I wish I still had it.

Voltron was the greatest robot ever! The lion-force and vehicle-force were the only ones that mattered.

My bf told me about a robot toy that was out in probably 1981 or 82. There was three of them and one was yellow and gray and bigger than the other two?? Also was a cartoon about them, anybody got an idea??
