Was there a penguin-like character? I had a plush penguin when I was 4 or 5 and I can't remember if it was a wuzzle or something else. I think if you put it in water or near your body it changed color...

Amber - January 03, 2008 - Report this comment
I still have my brother's Moosel and I bought a Butterbear at a thrift shop a few years ago because I was always jealous that my brother had one and I didn't. My cousin had Eleroo, another reason for my jealousy.
Hannah - January 03, 2008 - Report this comment
I had Eleroo. I ended up not liking him anymore, so I discarded him. I really don't remember ever having watched the cartoon but I watched all the episodes on Youtube and they are very cute and innocent. I bought a few of the books at library book sales where I used to live. I just love those. Long live the 80s!!!

I remember wanting Butterbear soooo bad one year. My aunt (who is like 17-18 years older than me), saved up to buy me one for Christmas that year. She bought me Bumblelion, and I was not happy. I threw a fit after opening it, and my mom beat my butt (and I deserved it!) I loved the book that came with him, and I wound up carrying him with me everywhere. I still have him and would never part with him :) It's pretty embarrassing to admit I was kind of a (major) brat sometimes.
Hannah - February 29, 2008 - Report this comment
They should definitely bring the Wuzzles back and make new ones. If they do, they better not mess them up! I'm serious!

I has Eleroo, he was great! In the book he loses his raffle ticket, but finds it in the end in his pouch! My sister had a Wuzzle tropical cousin. It was called Koalakeet, half Koala bear, half parakeet.

Was 'Fird a Wuzzle? I can't find him on any of the Wuzzle links. If he wasn't does anyone know what he was? I'm trying to find a used one.

When I was a little girl while I was alseep my mother after coming home late one evening put butterbear in my arms. I woke to find that I had a new friend and loved her for many years, till the day came when my mother like all mothers do... she threw out old toys thinking I no longer needed her. I know she didn't do it to hurt me but boy did that break my little heart. I miss that bear and think of that bear every so often and remember how much I loved that bear.

One of my favourite Saturday morning cartoons as a kid! For some reason, though, I never had any of the Wuzzles 'stuff'. My fave character was Bumblelion, but I also used to love when Hoppo would practice her 'singing' and drive everyone nuts!!

I remember watching the cartoon and being glued to the television! I had Mooseal and Bumblelion. My sister Butterbear. We moved and had to sell 'em when I was little. I miss 'em. =(

I had Hoppopotamus, don't know what happened to it...:( they had little action figure ones, too.
Paddy - September 28, 2008 - Report this comment
My mum got me the Hoppopotamus, my sister got Bumblelion and my other sister the Butterbear. My sisters promptly lost or destroyed them but I kept my Hoppopotamus for years and years, I think my mum eventually gave him to a charity shop in the late 90's, I wish I still had him. I'm 24 now but I still loved that toy. I don't think I ever read the book that came with mine though, the toy itself was enough for me!

After reading this sight it appears there are lots of people that don't know were it all started. Wuzzles were a later copycat of the original "Two Feature Creatures" book called: "Whoever Heard of a Fird?" (no longer published, and worth approx. $300 now). I also have a Stuffed Fird toy. At one point I had a Snider Spider (who had long white hair that hung from his crown to the ground, and wears a red baseball cap and 8 tiny white tennis shoes) he loves to dance & he is Firds pet and best friend. They are from this book. It was all of my children's favorite book and toys for ever, and now my grand children's. FYI other "Two Feature Creatures" in the book are: Dickens - part Dog &Chicken (Firds adopted family) Hyenant (only one) - part Hyena & Ant (ant antenna & hyena ears, in his lovely red magic coat) Wooses - part Worm & Goose (pink goose with very very long neck) Shamels -part Sheep & Camel (White wool, brown hair & yellow feet) Driders - part Dragon & Spider (6 spiderlegs, 2 dragon wings w/hands, & dragon body) Blizards - part Bird & Lizard (lizard legs & head, bird wings & beak-plays guitar & sings) Bertles - part Bear & Turtle (floating down the river on their back with their hat's on asleep Bertles sing and play music on their washtubs, brown jug & old washboard) Snog - part Snail & Hog (strangest creature any of them had ever seen) Ms. Girouse - part Giraffe & Mouse (giraffe spots & colors, mouse body with a long neck, Giraffe head, big eyes & large mouse ears) (Very cute one of my favorites ) Snooses -part Snake & Mongoose (THE REAL BAD GUYS) Don't forget the Big Bad Boogie Monsters - Very Hairy & Big as a tree quote: "We're big, but we're not bad. In fact we're just plain boogie monsters. All we do is boogie & boogie & boogie until we fall into a great hairy heap, laughing & trying to catch their breath. They dance all night until the sun comes up. Others in the book that were not named - What would you call them? A cross between: = Hippo & Aligator (?Hipigator - Aligappo ?) = Parrot & Moose (?Paroose - Marrot ?) = Cow & Leopard (?Cleopard - Leopow ?) = Kangaroo & Octopus (?Kantopus - Octaroo ?) = Tiger & Bee (?Biger - Tigee - Tibee ?) = Monkey & Pig (?Ponkey - Mig - Monkig ?) = Rabbit & Pelican (?Rabelican - Pelabbit ?) = Racoon&Grasshopper (?Racopper - Grasoon ?) When I was a little girl, my favorite toy was my Butterbear. I used to sleep with it, and take it every where with me. Over the years, she became lost, or it was just so worn my parents threw it away (which is most likely what happened). Last year, my husband and I were talking about when we were kids, and I told him about my Butterbear. Quite some time later, I came home from work one day and there was a package waiting for me. I opened it up, and inside was a Butterbear! My husband had remembered our conversation, so when he found one on-line he bought it for me. It's sitting up on a shelf in my living room. It constantly reminds me what a great childhood I had, and what an amazing husband I have now.

I loved Bumblelion! My cousin had Butterbear and we used to toss them to eachother and say random messages that we pretended the other air-mailed to us. I remember one time my cousin said something about Richard Nixon being 'immangoed' as she called it that one time. And just to assure you, Mr. Nixon was not president at the time.

The Wuzzles were first released as a toy and than made into a cartoon show in the 80's. The 5 main wuzzles were BumbleLion- the leader so to say Rhinokey- the comic relief Mooseal- the worry wart of the group Eleroo- the timid one Butterbear- the beautiful and smart one Hoppopotomus- the large and envious one. Later in the cartoon we were introduced to Tycoon, who was known as the richest wuzzle in all of Wuzz. Later episodes were planned for this cartoon series. Other wuzzles who were introduced into the toyline were the Wuzzle Cousins. Tycoon- the rich one Pandeaver- the active one with sports Woolrus- the musical one Koalakeet- the smart one Piggypine- the hungryone Skowl- the inventor who never seemed to get things right. The show was going to continue with more characters, yes the voice of Bill Scott was a small factor but this show was canceled due to poor ratings when it was placed next to its cousin show The Gummi Bears. In a act of trying to keep the show on for a second season. 7 plush babies were made for 15 investors. the wuzzle babies were going to be part of the show with Butterbear, Hoppo and Piggypine opening a daycare center. The wuzzles that were released to the investors were Moofly- part cow and dragonfly Kittypen- part kitten and penguin Pupling- part puppy and duckling Foxee- twin brother to woxee- part fox and zebra Woxee-twin to foxee part wolf and part fox Chipadillo- part chipmunk and part amradillo Peepsqueek- part chickenpeep, and part mouse With only 7 babies in a set and 15 investors to give the toys to these toys have been so hard to find. On the rare ocassion they will be on ebay for a rough price of $160 US dollars. I have every wuzzle, wuzzle cousin, and wuzzle baby. My collection is complete and they look wonderful. I never knew how great reclaiming my childhood would be. I hope every serious wuzzle collector out there can be as lucky as me. If you would like to know more about wuzzles hit me up on my email. I wrote Whoever Heard of a Fird -- the original "two-feature creature" book. It has been out of print for over 20 years -- since it mysteriously disappeared from the market, and Disney's Wuzzles just as mysteriously appeared. It took me 20 years to get the rights back to my work, but I have now accomplished that--and I have a huge anouncement to make: "Whoever Heard of a Fird" has been re-illustrated and republished and is now available on Amazon.com! An iPad version, including audio and music, will be released soon. Please go to www.whoeverheardofafird.com and read all about it! You can also listen to all the music from that site! This will make a great Christmas gift for kids 4-8, and those who loved it before will love it even more! The new illustrations are wonderful. Please visit the website and read all about it. Thanks!
