I had a blue furry looking one that did the same thing... lit up and made a wierd sound that was sound activated. I'm not completely sure if it was actually called a Chubbles or not... I want to say my mom said it was a Chiggles... but it did the same exact thing!
Vermillion - June 14, 2007 - Report this comment
It is a Chubbles. The noise it makes is called a Chiggle.
Christie - July 30, 2007 - Report this comment
No, chiggles were different, they are cousins of chubbles and not as cute. Harder to find too
Tammy - August 08, 2007 - Report this comment
The Chiggles were Chubble's little friend and they were sound activated whereas Chubbles was light activated making them "communicate" with each other. The lights going off would make Chubbles beep causing Chiggles to beep. The one photographed above had the Chubbles logo patch on the cloak. When they first came out they didn't have logo patches and later when they became more mainstream they gave them patches. The ones without the patches are worth more. They all came in either red, blue, green, or purple cloaks and Chiggles was fuzzy and blue and only in that color. they also made smaller chubbles that were flocked and harder plastic that beeped too. They were about 4 inches tall.

I still have my Chubble! He's a blue one without the patch, and seems a little taller than my sister's green one.. I also have a purple one I picked up from a garage sale. I LOVE this little guy even to this day!

I've had my Chubbles since I was a baby (born in '84). I love him! Replace the battery every once in a while & he's good as new, except his eyes don't light up anymore.

Kari - February 17, 2008 - Report this comment
My Chubbles still works well. It has a teal hood and my sister's is purple. They have the Chubbles patch on them. The tag says an Animal Fair Inc. product from Minneapolis, MN.
Elizabeth - March 03, 2008 - Report this comment
Are you sure the eyes are supposed to light up? I just bought one from ebay and the attached tag mentioned a light-up nose, but not eyes. With the battery, the nose is the only thing that lights up.

Lori in Ma - June 28, 2008 - Report this comment
I have a Blue chubbles, he's 24 years old. The tag is still on him and the tag tells you the story of the Chubbles. Chubbles come to you direct from Chase-A-Tail Dale, near Firefly Forest. They are caring little creatures whose mission is to bring love and cheer to beings of all ages. Chubbles live on love and need no special care, you don't even have to feed them.Change in the light around them makes Chubbles respond. The firefly in their nose lights up and the chiggle. This is an amusing sound that's somthing like a giggle. So, tell you troubles to a Chubble. They have no mouths so they can never, never tell. If you keep your Chubbles near, you'll always have love and lots of Chubble cheer. I hope all of you enjoy their story, My 9 year old son love him and his story.. Have a great time with you new friend.

I still got mine even though he doesn't work and he needs a good cleaning. I didn't like him giggling so I cut the battery cable I use to have a band aid on his foot like he was injured. I used to sleep with him a lot when I was a kid. He seemed to keep the bad stuff away. I got another one now still in the box and tagged but it doesn't hold any emotional feelings to me. I also got a duck looking one not sure what it is but its black with webbed feet and a duckbill. I won't ever get rid of my chubbles.

My cousin and I have been searching and searching for these things, we both forgot what the name was...and everyone we asked didn't even believe that they exsisted. The eyes of the Chubbles are not supposed to light up... just the nose. The eyes are the sensors (actually I think only one eye is the sensor). My original Chubbles is blue and has a patch. I LOVED him so much when I was younger that I when I was older I went on EBAY and bid on Chubbles after Chubbles... I ended up with nine now I believe. I had them all lined up on top of my window valance. My nephews liked to throw them all on the floor and make all of them go off at once. Its fun to hear more than one make its noise. They all sound different (pitches and tones) no two that I have sound the same. The Chubbles that I got off of EBAY were all colors and all ages (path vs no patch). I LOVE THEM!!!

I got a Chubbles in about 1984 when I was about 5 and he still works like the day I got him!. I haven't seen any others anywhere with the same brown robe mine has. He also doesn't have the cloak patch so I think it's one of the first ones ever made. Any idea why I can't find any others with a brown robe and cream color body--maybe very rare?

My sons had Chubbles. They would keep them by their bedroom door, so that the light activated noise would alarm them that someone was in their room. We still have one.
DewCanSam - January 10, 2009 - Report this comment
These toy stuffed animals were made by Animal Fair Inc. out of Minneapolis, MN. There were actually several of them. Chubbles was the first, looked a little like a 'jawa' from 'Star Wars', wore a hood and robe came in a variety of colors. I think blue was the most common. Chubbles responded to light, by covering the right eye ( if I remember correctly ) , his nose lit up and gave a couple of chirps. Chiggles came next, looked kinda like a lion ( a picture (http://www.geocities.com/carebearkingdom/chiggledark.jpg) can be found here (http://www.geocities.com/carebearkingdom/chiggles.html) ). Chiggles responded to sound by clapping or whistling by blinking his eyes and giving the same little chirp. Next ( again if i am remembering correctly ) came the miniature versions of Chubbles and Chiggles. I think they both responded to sound by lighting up inside. Also very cool was that they then glowed in the dark. I remember picking mine up shaking him at night just so that i could enjoy the glow. Then there was also Chootles. If I remember correctly he was a bird. Kinda like a big fat plumb crow. Of course he didn't go over well with the public. Plus I think the fad was fading because I remember that they were getting hard to find in the stores ( weren't selling as many ). I actually found my original Chootles at a drug store in Billings, MT in 1988. The combination of Chootles looking like a fat crow and that they weren't selling as fast makes Chootles the rarest of them all. I have no idea to what stimuli he responded to, or even how he responded. There might have even been a fourth in the series, but I can't quite remember. Yes, I had them all, the whole family. Big and 2 little Chubbles, Big and little Chiggles, Big Chootles, and a fourth big one. For a total of 4 big and 3 little ones. And in excellent condition. So what happened to them you ask ? They all came to an untimely and horrific, tragic end. In 1992 the girlfriend, that I was with at the time, and I had a very abrupt and extreme end :fight: to the relationship. Which resulted in all my stuff being throw away in the dumpster. I was not able to recover them. :grrr: :grrr: :grrr:

I have been looking for Chubbles for over 18 years. I had found one in the late 80's in a thrift store while tweaking and I made it my friend. I would talk to it everyday, until I went to jail and out of all the things I lost, I missed him the most. I just couldn't remember the name, all I remember was it sounded like my nickname Troubles. SO I am sitting here on 3/29/09, do not know what made me think of it, but I did a search, and finally chose the right letters and found him again. I just got done buying one off E-Bay. You just do not know how happy my heart feels right now.

I still have my full size blue, no patch Chubbles from my second birthday in '85. It's a little dirty from years gone by and the tag just says "surface wash." Has anyone found a safe way of cleaning these precious guys? I've got a baby on the way in 10 weeks and I hope she has as much fun wich Chubbles as I did.

I have one with the blue cape! I was trying to explain it to my husband who is 4 years older than me and he did know anything about them. To jen! I would suggest soapy rag that is lightly wet. If that doesn't work you can see if a dry cleaner can fix him up. Oh another thing I have found to work is Peroxide as a soap and put in the sun to dry since the sun is a natural bleacher.

Awww... I remember my Chubble. It had a blue hoodie. Awesome little guys, huh? My cousin got one with a red hoodie and I remember that being our toy that went everywhere with us. Mine is still on my bedside table. I named mine Chub. My cousin, J.K, named hers T.B. She named him Tuberculosis originally, but shortened it. She named him Tuburculosis because our Grandfather said that " those Chubbley things will only bring problems, J.K. Disease from toy makers sneezing on toys, choking hazards from parts falling off! Chubbits, or whatever they are, will be disaster!" Exactly in Gramps' words. Too bad he didn't predict contaminated water for Kitty Kitty Kittens. Oh, and he's the one who bought us our Chubbles. LOL.

My sister and I both had Chubbles when we were small. We even named one of our puppies Chubbles (later shortend to Chubba) due to his fluffy hair. I really do miss having mine and I'm seriously considering searching E-Bay for one for my four daughters to share! Ah, memories... :)

I saw a picture of Chootles today online. It's horrific. It looks like a cross between the comic strip character Ziggy and a pastel kangaroo. As much as I dislike Chubbles I can see how some would like them. Chootles is an entirely different story. I'll be seeing that abomination in my nightmares. That thing would drive dread Cthulhu himself insane.

I recently found a Chubbles doll at a thrift store. I was amused because of the eyes and nose. I have a bumble bee that I called "chuckles" as a small child. He has the eyes and nose that light up/blink as he makes noise (very much like the noise the chubbles make) I have searched for years to find out the maker of my "chuckles" (I don't know if "chuckles" Is an official name or something I came up with) He is about the same size as the chubbles dolls with metallicish raimbow pastel wings on one side and rainbow polkadots on the back of his wings. His legs arms and antenna also rainbow.) He's sort of elaborately decorated. I was born in 83 and I got him when I was maybe 18 months or 2 years old. his eyes light up white/yellow and his nose lights up red. He was made for the "McCrory Corporation"

Leigh, I have been trying to find a bee. I got one when I was a kid and can't find any info on it. I recall it being a bee and the crinkle wings and the noise after you messed with it's nose! Please help!

The pic is NOT a Chubbles- my sister had one just like that when she was little. It was brown and furrier/bigger than a Chubbles. Its nose lit up red and it babbled in a squeaky, robotic way when you waved in front of its eyes. What the heck was it? Definitely not a Chubbles. Any idea?

I have one exactly like the one in the picture that I have had for 31 years. I have been trying to figure out what it is called for a very long time. It does not look like a Chubb les to me. I also would like to figure out what it is called if anybody knows. Definitely does not look like a Chubbles!:)

Hoping for some help and I think Im already on the right track. Im looking for a toy similar to the Chubbles but he is called Giggles. He was about 3 or 4ft tall (I was 7 so could have been smaller) and he was completely fur from head to toe. His eyes were like little lights that blinked (shaped similar to Light Bright Pegs) and he made a beeping sound that was referred to as "giggles" for which Im sure was rather an annoying repetitive sound to adults lol. I looked at Chubbles friend Chiggles and I dont believe that is what Im looking for cause mine had lights as eyes, if Im remembering correctly. The nose may have also blinked and lit up but not sure. The year I got him was 1987. He could have come out anytime within the 5 years or so prior. He was new with tags when I got him so not a hand me down or anything like that. Please help me find him. He is part of my last memory of my grandfather, my favorite person in the world. He gave me this Giggles toy in the hospital, the night before he passed away. My grandma threw him away a few years later when she babysat some kids who came over with head lice. lol. She claimed she was just bagging him up for a while. but he was never seen again...not by me anyways. :(

Well, after all my searching, Im pretty sure I found what I was looking for...and only minutes after posting my comment asking for help. I found thisn 1985 Beeple Plush Big Foot. I remember my Giggles reminded me of a big foot, but I dont recall it having large feet so maybe there were other animals too, IDK. But this one I found on ebay has round lights for eyes which is also right, not oval ones as I said before. So yeah, this is probably what I was in search of, but if anyone knows of any other toy similar to what ive described in this and my last comment, please lmk. Thanks so much!

Its called a Wurble, and I've been trying to remember the name of it for years too. I just bought one on ebay!

I, too, almost bought the Beeple, thinking that was it, but I have always called it a "Wurble", since childhood, but apparently have been spelling it wrong on search engines, wirbil, werbil, worble, and it never picked it up. I just happened to spell it right this time! The picture posted is of an OLD one--hang on to that one. Can't wait to get mine!!

My mom sold the house I grew up in in January, so I ended up with all my childhood stuff that was stored in the attic. Chubbles was in the stuffed animal bin. Unfortunately, it seems like his light sensor doesn't work, anymore. He chirps when I put the battery in, but not when I cover his eyes. Any ideas on if it can be fixed? He's one of the originals, without the patch.
