I remember the first time I found out about Pound Puppies. I was at my grandfather's house in Indiana, when a commercial for the toys came on TV. I got excited. I was crazy for stuffed dogs at that time. I really wanted a Pound Puppy! I finally got one a few months later. A grey Bulldog. I loved that dog. I even wrote a story about him for a contest in a stuffed animal magazine I used to get. You were supposed to write a story about an adventure you and your Pound Puppy had had. The prize was a bunch of Pound Puppy merchandise. My tale involved me and my Pound Puppy walking in the woods, where we encountered Bigfoot. Of course my Pound Puppy chased him off before he could attack. Unfortunately I didn't win. I had a bunch of Pound Puppy stuff as well. A lunchbox, colorforms, an electric toothbrush. And I never missed the cartoon. Pound Puppies are one of my favorite 80s toys.

I too had a Pound Puppy. Mine was brown and was a companion of mine for a long time. I also had a small one that was gray in color that my aunt bought me as a premium from a fast food restaurant. My nephew took claim to them when he was little, and unfortunately, my niece took the brown one to use as a chew toy for her Siberian Husky when he was a pup. I sure miss my Pound Puppy, and wish I'd have said "NO" when my nephew begged me to let him take it home.

Rather than buy the ready made Pound Puppies, I got a pattern and made one (even bought the Logo to sew on it) for my daughter. The other day while going through boxes, we found hers, unfortunately, the mice had gotten into the box and destroyed not only her Pound Puppy but also the girl mouse I had made for her and the boy mouse I had made for her brother. We both mourned the losses as we ended up tossing the entire box of stuffed memories into the trash.

There was a VHS filled with cartoons at the video store that I'd always make my mom rent. I had a large gray Pound Puppy and a lot of small ones. I even had some Pound Purries, but the dogs were my favorites.

I remember getting my first Pound Puppy for Christmas 1986. I was still into stuffed animals, but at the time I thought I was getting too old for toys...But, I just HAD to have a Pound Puppy. He was gray with dark brown spots. Then, for my birthday the following year, I got the smaller version that was white with dark brown spots. I now buy them whenever I can find them in the thrift stores, and have a little collection going (along with many other 80's plush toys). They don't make them like they used to!

I wasn't a child of the 80's, but I did have one of those miniature plush Pound Puppies when I was a kid. I remember they used to have two baskets of them at Target in the gift card section and I would have to beg my dad to buy them for me. I had some of the playsets, too; the van and the wedding chapel, for sure. I remember I had a small brown one with floppy ears that I took with me wherever I went. I lost it a while ago, but now I'm hunting for a new one. :)

I had lots of these, they were a favorite. I remember a commercial where pound puppies with big ears would fly around the room. When I finally got one, I assumed it would fly as well. I also got several from Hardee's where you could buy them for a time. You could also get the Pound Purries there.

OMG Karn I'm not the only one!! I got my Pound Puppy when I was 5 and I am now 27. He's called Freckles aka Poundie and has slept in my bed every night since! It's the way they fit into your body nicely, great when you've got period pain :) My partner gets a bit annoyed with Poundie and shoves him on my head sometimes but he's still in the bed after 22 of life! And going strong with his red dungarees and collar (almost completely perished and buttons have fallen off). He has been a real constant in my life LOL.

My 2nd grade class shared one as a "pet" -- it was resembled Cooler from the cartoon, but our teacher named him Rocky. Each student got to take him home for the weekend & he came with a lunchbox that had crayons & paper in it. We had to keep a "journal" of our time with him, including illustrations & even photos if we wanted. Then we had to share it with the class on Monday. By the end of the year we had a massive scrapbook/box of memories with Rocky :)

Okay so I'm 24 years old and I still have my pound puppy Cooler from when I was a little girl!! I loved (and still do!!!) animals and was dying for a pound puppy, and my wonderful Maw Maw bought my best friend Cooler for me, and he literally went everywhere with me!! Cooler and I used to have matching pajamas when I was a kid and he still has one that he wears everyday! My boyfried thinks it's a little strange that I still keep him on the bed, but it's a sentimental thing! When I have kids I want to give my little girl my Cooler because he meant sooo much to me as a girl!! I miss the show too :)

our boy had a Pound Puppy when he was little, given to him by his nana. When he got older, even into his early teens he still liked to have his white w/ brown spotted pup whom he had named Bo-diddly on his bed. Now that he's grown, I've become the official caretaker of "Bo", the well loved, somewhat mended pound puppy. Can't wait to have grandkids to share him with!!! I've even amde him some cool outfits.

I had a small poseable one first. It was my FAVORITE toy. I loved it SOOOO much. One day when my mom picked me and my 2 younger siblings up from our babysitter's house after work she set our bag of stuff along with my pound puppy on top of the car while she got the 3 of us strapped in. In the insanity of having 3 small children and trying to get home to make dinner in rush hour traffic, she drove off with the bag and the Pound Puppy on top of the car! She realized it just a few minutes later and turned around to get them...The stuff in the bag was ok - guess the bag was big enough people avoided it in the road. But traffic was no match for my poor pound puppy! :o( I cried ALL NIGHT LONG! Guess once I finally got to bed, my mom talked to my dad on the phone (who worked 2nd shift) and told him what happened. I awoke the next morning to find a big stuffed Pound Puppy with 3 small stuffed babies sitting on the kitchen table! (Guess my mom had ask dad to stop somewhere on his way home from work that night & get them for me!) This is still one of my HAPPY FAMILY memories! and I still have my big pound puppy too!

I forgot about my little vinyl pound puppy look alike with flocked fur. He was the first Pound Puppy thing I ever got. He was non poseable and sat on his hind legs. He looked like Cooler complete with a blue jacket you could remove. Actually it was more like a saddle but the package referred to it as a coat. Today I have five or six Pound Puppies. My favorite is one of the rarer Super Pound Puppies. Twice as big as the regular size Pound Puppies, he is dark brown with long floppy ears. I carry him with me in a backpack where ever I go. He keeps the depression and the anxiety attacks at bay. I call him simply Guard Dog, because that's what he is to me. Sometimes I think he works better for the depression than all the meds I take.

I'm not a child of the 80s, nor did I have these in my life as a kid, but I did find one in a thrift store once. His name was Sam, and I latched onto him immediately. I loved how he looked just like the dog on the logo. I ended up buying 3 more vintage pups-a brown basset named Droops, a gray bulldog I call Rocco, and a sweet little gray-and-fudge puppy, "Baby Spots". I am currently looking for a more feminine dog-I'll probably name her Bess.

I remember begging my parents for a Pound Puppy and showing my Dad the dogs in the Savon's near our house at Christmas time. I said I wanted the light colored one with spots, not the ugly brown one!! Well, on Christmas Eve I opened my present to find they had gotten me to the solid brown one. I had a brief moment of disapointment and remember thinking the thought "well at least they got me one!" (It was a miracle they actually listened to what I wanted). So, I was resolved to love him anyways. I still sleep with him to this day. He makes a great pillow too. LOL. Poor thing, his eyes are all rubbed off and I have to repair holes in his seams often but he is hanging in there!

Hi, my name is Chris and I'm 33 here in Ohio. My father worked at ford with Mike Bowling and was one of his friends. When mike came up with the idea he and his wife made the first 500 by hand and they were much higher quality with much more detail than the ones sold in stores. Mike bowling gave my dad two of them so that is how I have the one I do. On the bottom of dog mike signed collector edition 1985- 116/500 and he signed it. It came with real nice wooden box and papers showing what it is. I'm thinking of selling it so if anybody can help me out or point me in the right direction that would be great.
