Eighties Movie Locations That Really Exist, Movies Beginning with I
This is a list of places that are in movies, but have a real life counterpart.
Please try and be as specific as possible in describing where something is
and when it appears in a movie. I don't want just city names where filming
took place so much as I want landmark type buildings.

The graduation scene was filmed at the ampitheater in Bob Noble Park in Paducah KY.
In The Heat of The Night
The town of Sparta, MS was actually Hammond, LA.
In The Heat of the Night
Was actually filmed in Covington, GA... about 20 miles east of Atlanta on US278. I discovered this by calling the telephone number on the side of one of the ambulances one time and reaching Newton General Hospital. I've been there and watched the filming.. even took a photo of Carroll O'Connor with my daughter.
The Aisan airport where Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) boarded Lao Che's airplane was filmed at the former Hamilton Air Force Base, Novato, CA.
The INTERIOR mall scenes were filmed in The Old Columbia Mall on Memorial Drive just outside Decatur, Georgia. (About 7 miles east of Atlanta, Ga.) The department store was an old Sears, and at the time the mall was actually open during the day. The filming took place between 11pm and 6am. Most of the store fronts were actually built in front of existing stores. The exterior shot except where the security officer turns around and flees gunfire were not filmed in Georgia. Many of the car chase clips following the mall scene were filmed in downtown Decatur, Georgia. The Houses that were destroyed in the neighborhood destruction scene early in the movie were actual houses in a subdivision in Forrest Park, Georgia, about 5 miles south of Downtown Atlanta. The subdivision was being cleared for industrial development. The scenes at the end of the film with the Army confrontation were filmed in and outside the Georgia Pacific Building in downtown Atlanta. (100 block of Peachtree Street.)
Many of the dog sled scenes were filmed alond side the St. Louis River in Duluth, Minnesota. The Ballroom scene was filmed in the ballroom of the Hotel Duluth.
