Eighties Movie Locations That Really Exist, Movies Beginning with S

This is a list of places that are in movies, but have a real life counterpart. Please try and be as specific as possible in describing where something is and when it appears in a movie. I don't want just city names where filming took place so much as I want landmark type buildings.

When Lloyd first calls Diane, he mentions how they sat together at Bel-Square which is a mall in Bellevue WA, a suburb of Seattle. But when he drives past "the scene of their controversial first date" it is Westlake Center in downtown Seattle.

This film was shot in a now closed prison in Mansfield, Ohio.
The Night Club scenes with Kevin Bacon (where he encounters a girl in the bathroom) was shot at Excalibur located at 632 N. Dearborn Street Chicago, Illinois.

The Winnetka Congregational Church is located at: 725 Pine Street Winnetka, Illinois.
Sunset foods in Northbrook Illinois Winnetka train station
Stanley Hotel, Estes Park, CO, USA
The long opening shot of the car driving up to the isolated hotel is the road up to the Timberline Lodge, Mt Hood, Oregon. None of the interior shots used in the movie are of the interior of the lodge, but it's still a cool place to visit and, if you dare, spend the night
The movie was filmed at the Timberline Lodge in Portland, OR and the interior shots were done on a soundstage in London.
The Shining
The movie "The Shining" was actually filmed at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado. Look at their website for proof.
At the begining of the film where they are at the "Tarkers Mill Fesival" is actually in Burgaw, North Carolina at the Court house in the middle of town. Burgaw is a 20 minute drive from Wilmington, NC.
The lake scene where Marty is shooting off his fireworks on the bridge when the werewolf tries to attack him is actually "Greenfield Lake" in Wilmington, NC.
Niles Township High School in Skokie, Illinios. The location is now torn down but was up until approximately 5 years ago.
The scene where a Car pulls out of the dance en-route to Jake Ryan's Party takes place at the Skokie Public Library Parking Lot located at: 5215 Oakton Street. Skokie, Illinois. Then the Car drives past the Skokie Historical Society located at: 8031 Floral Ave. Skokie, Illinois.

Jake Ryan's house in Sixteen Candles I believe is in Highland PArk, Illinois on Waverly.
Samantha Bakers House is located at 3022 Payne Street in Evanston, Ill.
Niles North High School
San Pedro High School
Somersby
In the beginning of the movie, Richard Gere is walking in the woods. He looks left and the scene cuts to a large gorge with a river. The gorge shot was actually done on top of Gathright Dam, Covington Virgina (Gere wasn't actually standing on the dam, the scene was edited in)
Cars are definitely not allowed on the island -- except of course emerency service vehicles. You can rent bikes. The front desk location has changed, but the space where it was in the movie is an open space and walking away from it you pass the elevator and head towards the restaurant as Christopher Reeves did.
The location was Mackinaw Island in Michigan. The Grand Hotel, the hotel in the movie, is still open for business. It is like going back in time...supposedly no cars are allowed on the island and there are horse drawn carriages.
Georgetown, D.C., USA Truckee, Nevada, USA College Park, Maryland, USA This movie took place in Georgetown, D.C. The college scenes was located at the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland. The snowy scenes was located in Truckee, Nevada.
The scene where Rob Lowe and his fraternity brothers are playing outside the house was actually filmed at the University of Maryland campus in College Park on Frat Row, not at Georgetown, where the movie takes place.
The town of "Castle Rock" was filmed in Brownsville, OR.
Burney, California. The railroad bridge that the guys run across trying to beat the train is located over the waters of Lake Britton, northeast of Burney Falls State Park. The site is accessible from Highway 89 a few miles off of Highway 299. The engine number is #25, a steam locomtive still used for fan trips and dinner runs by the McCloud River Railroad.
Filmed in and around Cottage Grove Oregon.
Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan
The brilliant explosion of the U.S.S. Reliant (out of which was born the planet Genesis) was filmed inside of the "Cow Palace" in Daly City, CA. A venue for many rock tours including Van Halen, and the place where I first saw Sammy Hagar fronting for them.
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
2 major locations were based around my hometown of Ridgecrest, CA. The location of Paradise City was located on the dry lake bed of Owens Lake, approx 50 miles N along Highway 395. The final scene on Shaka-Re was filmed at The Pinnacles, a formation of minerals created by an ancient lake. This is approx 15 miles W of Ridgecrest, along Highway 178, on the south side of the road. The crew for Star Trek V operated out of Ridgecrest, and it was rumored that the exhibit hall was used to build several large sets.
Meteor Crater, Arizona. The movie concludes at this location, a tourist site near Flagstaff, off Interstate 40. It's also known as Barringer Meteor Crater.
It was filmed in easterm Tennessee. The scene where Starman brought the deer that some hunters had shot back to life (it was on the hood of their car) took place in a mythical truck stop/restaurant/ called "Bowdarks". It was actually a country restaurant on I-24, about 20 miles west of Chattanooga on the right side of the interstate and just before you begin the long slow climb to Monteagle. It has been long abandoned and is easily recognizable to the movie buff. I passed this area many times when they were shooting the movie and the building remained painted as "Bowdarks" quite a while after the move was completed, but the restaurant was closed.
This film was made on location in several towns in my homestate, New Jersey, including Island Beach State Park (Ocean County), Camden (Camden County), and Margate (Atlantic County).
Was actually filmed in the author's hometown of Natchitoches, Louisiana. They do have a Christmas celebration down by the Cane River Lake - it is called the Festival of Lights - but they don't serve crawfish (they're out of season).
In the beginning of the movie the McKenzie brothers show their movie "The Mutants of 2051 A.D." in an actual movie theater called "University Theater". This closed down in 1986 and today is home to a store called "The Pottery Barn" located on Bloor Street in Toronto
It was not entirely Filmed at Ft. Knox, it was however filmed at a Place Called Ormsby Village Treatment Center in Kentucky. Which was closed when the movie was filmed. I know this because I used to live there as a child. My father was a Social Worker there, and a scene in the movie where they were looking at the naked girls through the telescope was filmed in my fathers old office. Also the water tower was right behind our house. The last time I was there was in 95, our house is gone, in its place is an office building, the road has been cut up and a UPS building was built in it's place. The Generals house where the 2 main characters make it with the MP's is actually an old Civil War Mansion that was the home of my friend Steven Rife back in 1974-77.
The beginning of the movie (taxi cab on the bridge) was filmed in Louisville, KY. The military base was Fort Knox and the scene with the tank was filmed in Belmont, Ky right behind Jim Beam distillery.
Opening scene filmed downtown Louisville, Ky. Barbershop was still there 5 years ago. The cab was crossing the GW Bridge into Indiana, when it was supposed to be going to the airport. The building where they filmed Bill Murray's apartment scenes was in an alley across from the Kingfish Restaurant, off Market street. If you look real hard in the basketball scene you can see the Belle of Louisville steamboat in the background. Most of teh basic trianing scenes were done at FT.KNOX, you can still recognize some of the buildings
